Outlook & Outlook Express

The following steps will show you how to configure this e-mail client to receive e-mail.

If you are familiar with setting up this e-mail client and have an existing e-mail account you may skip to Step 3 to set your POP and SMTP server information.

Step 1

Open your email reader and click on Tools. (See Image 1)

Step 2

This will open the Tools dialogue box, scroll down and click on Accounts. (See Image 2)

Step 3

If you have an existing email and need only change your POP and SMPT settings you may skip this step and account go to Step 3. For new e-mail setup, on the upper-right hand side of the Internet Accounts dialogue box is the Add button. Click on the Add button (see Image 3) to be guided by the Account Wizard for setting up a new e-mail account.

The Wizard information required in order of need is as follows:

  • Display Name: Your Name
  • E-mail Address: yourname@domainname.com
  • My incoming mail server is a POP3 server.
  • Incoming Mail (POP3): pop.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.yourdomain.com
  • Account name: yourname@domainname.com
  • Password: Your email password
  • Check Remember Password

Pen Publishing requires all email accounts to authenticate their email. This means, any email originating from our mail servers must provide their username and password. This ensures that any email user attempting to use our mail server is a legitimate customer. Therefore, after you have completed the Wizard assisted email setup, you will need to set your Outlook Express/Outlook for Authentication.

After closing out the email Wizard, you will still have the Internet Accounts dialogue box open. At the bottom of this box, it says Outgoing Mail Server, below this is the Authentication box where it says: "My server requires authentication." Click this box. To see how to set your new e-mail account for Authentication go to Step 3

Step 3a

For changing the settings on an existing e-mail account: After clicking on Accounts, the Internet Accounts dialogue box will open. Click the Mail tab and then click to "highlight" the mail account you plan to reconfigure. Now click on the Properties button on the right side of the dialogue box. (See Image 3a)

Step 4

Opening the Properties dialogue box will give you another set of tabs, click on the Servers tab. This will give you the dialogue box that will let you set up your POP and SMTP mail server, and Authentication.

  • Incoming Mail (POP3): pop.yourdomain.com
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.yourdomain.com
  • Check My server requires authentication
  • Account name: yourname@domainname.com
  • Password: Your email password

Click the Apply button and then the OK button at the bottom of this box, and your are finished. (See Image 4)

Warning: Be sure you have clicked the Apply button or your changes will not be saved.
